COVID-19 Measures

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about changes in many aspects of our lives. Visits to the dentist and the work of your dental team are no exception.

Several measures have been put in place to limit the risk of spreading the virus. Our aim is to ensure the safety of our patients during their dental visits, as well as that of our team members in their work environment.

Before explaining the measures that have been put in place at our dental clinic, please note that we comply with all recommendations issued jointly by the Ordre des dentistes du Québec (Quebec Order of Dentists) and public health authorities. However, these measures are subject to change as we learn more about the virus and how it spreads, and as the pandemic evolves.

Appointments: screening questionnaire & physical distancing

First, important new measures have been put in place regarding appointments and your visits to the clinic. We must now limit the number of people in the clinic at any given time and reduce contact between patients to a strict minimum. We must ensure that physical distancing is maintained at all times. Here is what you can expect during your next visit to our clinic:

  • We are only accepting appointments by phone. It is no longer possible to enter the clinic without an appointment and, except for young children and patients with special needs, we are no longer accepting companions.
  • A COVID-19 screening questionnaire will be completed when you make your appointment, when your appointment is confirmed by phone, and when you arrive at the clinic. This is to confirm that you are not at risk of having been recently exposed to the virus.
  • We now ask that you wait in your car when you arrive and call us to let us know you are here. Our secretaries will let you know when you can enter the clinic.
  • You must wear a mask when entering and moving around the clinic. We will also take your temperature on your forehead and ask you to wash your hands.

Air filtration & aerosol capture

In the dental environment, aerosols are the main challenge associated with the pandemic. These invisible and volatile particles are produced during certain treatments when the patient's saliva mixes with the water coming out of the dental instruments. The particles are then projected into the air, where they can remain suspended.

However, our clinic has implemented several measures to limit the spread of aerosols in the air. In particular, the suction power of our instruments has been increased so that aerosols can be captured at source. In addition, our operating rooms are now equipped with air purifiers with HEPA filters, which capture and eliminate infectious agents. Our operating rooms are also closed to prevent air circulation between different parts of the clinic.

Asepsis & personal protective equipment

The dental clinic was already a place where the risk of spreading viruses and bacteria was greatly reduced. We are subject to very strict asepsis protocols that are regularly monitored. Nevertheless, these have been increased to further reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 and other diseases.

Finally, it should be noted that the dentist, dental assistant, and hygienist all wear personal protective equipment, which provides an additional barrier between the patient and the care team. Masks, goggles, gloves, surgical gowns... We wear all the personal protective equipment currently recommended by the authorities.

It is important to note that we treat each patient at the clinic according to their individual situation and needs. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the measures outlined in this article are subject to change. If you have any questions about these measures or about your future visits to the clinic, please do not hesitate to contact us!
